AIA Richmond: An Overview
The
American Institute of Architects Richmond (Virginia) Chapter was
founded in 1976 as The James River Chapter, AIA, a component of the
Virginia Society AIA. In order to provide a better since of our
geographical location to those architects outside of our area, as
well as to the public, we changed our name to AIA Richmond in
2005. AIA Richmond, a professional organization representing more
than 400 architects and interns practicing in the Greater Richmond,
Virginia area, is dedicated to advancing the practice of architecture
among design professionals, as well as expanding the awareness and
appreciation of architecture among the general public.
The
Richmond Chapter encompasses a number of cities and counties in
Virginia, extending from Fredericksburg in the north, the North
Carolina line to the south, Charlottesville to the west and
Williamsburg to the east. Much of this area is now considered to be
within the extended metropolitan area of Richmond, VA.
