Seminar A - Combining Masonry Materials.
Speaker: Brian E. Trimble, PE, LEED AP, of the Brick Industry Association (BIA). AIA Credits Earned: 1 CEU (HSW)
Material basics, combining brick and mortar, differential movement, expansion joints, banding materials, the flexibility of brick. Various materials are being used within the same wall system more often. Properties of one material may be totally different than the other. Participants will learn how material properties influence the performance of the materials when combined with brick masonry. Brick and mortar combinations, brick and block banding, brick and steel combinations, and other combinations will be discussed. Recommended details and design considerations are included.
Seminar B - Brick Revisited: Just How Green Is It?
Speaker: Christine A. Subasic, PE, LEED AP, of the Brick Industry Association (BIA). AIA Credits Earned: 1 CEU (HSW)
Attendees will learn how to incorporate brick into LEED rating system by hearing about what points are applicable to brick masonry. More people are learning how to incorporate sustainability within their projects. This seminar takes a look at the environmental aspects of brick and how it fits in within the LEED rating system. Includes discussion about brick manufacturing, life cycle assessment and performance aspects of brick masonry.
